We Are of This Place – Septimus – Some Seal! – A talk about ‘Septimus’ the Grey Seal
April 15 @ 6:15 pm - 8:30 pm
Event Navigation

This event is part of the ‘We Are of This Place’ celebrations covering all parishes between Liskeard and Looe, and it is sponsored by Looe Valley Festivals.
The talk will take place on Tuesday 15th April from 6.15pm – 8.30pm at the RNLI Lifeboat Station Crew Room in Looe.
This talk begins with the little that we know of the life of Septimus, an Atlantic grey seal only ever seen in the St Austell Bay area.
Rob Wells has monitored and recorded seals in St Austell Bay and on the Roseland Peninsula for over ten years, for the Cornwall Seal Research Trust (CSRT). His work has helped to transform what we know about how seals use the south coast of Cornwall.
The life and death of Septimus has contributed to a desire to spread the word about problems in our marine environment.
To this end, Rob has recently written a children’s book called “Excuse me, are you my Mum?” This covers the difficult first year in the life of Lightning, a seal pup, who encounters many problems and perils as she travels on a quest to find her Mum. There is a happy ending! (Copies will be available to buy for £9.99, all profits to CSRT).
The talk will be followed by our in-person monthly meeting to which all are welcome. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. This is a FREE event but donations to Looe Marine Conservation Group are welcomed. Please visit the Looe Marine Conservation website and the Looe Marine Conservation Facebook page closer to the time of the event for the most up to date information.
