Walks and Talks Festival

This June come and discover the stories of our landscape, with four walks showcasing
the moor, a village and a hamlet within Linkinhorne. All walks are free but donations towards local causes will be appreciated.

Sunday 2nd June – Stowes Hill

Join us on a fact finding mission with Iain Rowe who will lead a wonderful circular walk over the moor unravelling the captivating history and folklore this area holds.

• Fact or fiction the men on the moor were turned to stone?
• Was gold really found on the hill?
• Just how did Cheesewring appear?
• Who were the first miners making a living from this moor?

Come and join us unravelling the moors heritage.

Sunday 9th June – Gonamena

Come and be enraptured by the stories of times gone by when this moor was alive with 4000 people toiling within the mines.
Gonamena holds a fascinating history which will be relayed to us by Simon Parker revealing the historical stories that lay behind the boom and bust years of mining on this moor.

Sunday 16th June – Upton Cross

A leisurely stroll at Upton Cross taking in the key features of this moorland village where village friends will guide us through more modern times of ecclesiastical, education and entertainment.

• Did you know a prominent architect designed the school, church and school room?
• Do your family hold school or wartime memories?
• A new resurrection will take place of Sterts Theatre this year but how and when did it all begin?

Sunday 23rd June – Plusha Bridge

Come and be amazed at how much history one tiny hamlet can possess!
Join Colin and Elaine Humphries and Sally Ellicott as they bring to life some of the social history tales of the people to be found in 1850s Plussia such as Eliza Harris and Francis Bartlett.

Plusha Bridge wasn’t always the quiet little hamlet hidden way down in the valley.
We will meander from Browda to Addicroft where a cream tea will await.
Parking may be challenging, Plusha Bridge being the best option.
