The Plymouth Symphony Orchestra’s summer concert includes Rossini’s delightful overture to The Barber of Seville and the rousing march from Verdi’s Aida. Also in the programme are the Suite from Bizet’s Carmen and Glazunov’s sparkling 5th Symphony. This symphony, composed in 1895, is known as ‘The Heroic’.
Glazunov was renowned for not letting convention hold him back and the work features a mix of nationalistic and cosmopolitan moods. Influences of Wagner and Mendelssohn can also be recognised, as well as Russian rhythms and harmonies.
Tickets £12, concession £10, child £6. Two course meal available for an additional £15
