As part of Liskeard Unlocked. Nicholas and Alexandra – Tyrants and Martyrs of Imperial Russia. Illustrated talk for Liskeard Arts Society by Douglas Skeggs.

Although it has been told and retold in books and films, no story in the 20th century has caught the imagination more powerfully and poignantly than the tragic life and execution of Nicholas II, the last of the Romanovs.

Douglas Skeggs has been a lecturer on paintings since 1980. In that time he has given over 8000 lectures to universities, colleges and art societies.

Liskeard Arts Society is a member society of The Arts Society (https://theartssociety.org/). It was formed to bring together people who are curious about and interested in human artistic achievement in the world about us. So we give a series of beautifully illustrated lectures, and arrange visits to museums, galleries, houses and gardens, allowing you to increase and broaden your knowledge of art in the widest sense of the word, in the company of other like-minded people; our meetings are characterised by plenty of animated conversation.

Our annual programme includes nine monthly lectures and two Discovery Days on a wide range of subjects by Arts Society lecturers, all experts in their field. We also organise day visits and longer tours to places of artistic interest.

Most of our members come from South East and East Cornwall; members from other areas are always welcome to join us. This talk is free as part of Liskeard Unlocked, for other talks non-members are welcome to come along, admission is £8 per person (this will be deducted from your annual sub if you choose to join us on the day)
