| FreeEvent Navigation

As part of Liskeard Unlocked 2022 Stuart House have an exhibition about the invention and development of the Man Engine as used in Cornish mines. There will also be a trail of inventions which we now take for granted in the House, an Art and Craft exhibition and rare photograph exhibition.
Michael Loam, a Liskeard man, is credited with inventing the Man Engine which was used extensively in Cornish tin and copper mines. There were some tragic accidents, but it was a way of avoiding long climbs back to surface after a day’s mining. The exhibition is about Loam, the invention of the Man Engine and its use and history.
5th-17th September, open weekdays 9.30am-3.30pm, Saturdays 9.30am-12.30pm (closed Sundays)
