Liskeard Storytelling Café meet on the 4th Thursday of the month (not August or December) in Liskeard Public Hall at 7.30pm. Entry by donation to cover room hire and we ask a bit more when we have a guest performer.
This month we have brilliant storyteller Gary Cordingley with Medusa. The tale of Medusa and Peseus is a dramatic and startling story that has been told for 3,000 years, it’s very easy to remember the frightening woman with snakes for hair whose very glance is death. It’s easy to remember the winged hero who, aided by the gods, defeats her…
But the tale starts with an innocent but beautiful maiden, what went wrong? Who is the hero, who is the victim? How does this resonate in today’s world?
.
The Storytelling Café is a friendly and informal group that celebrates the wonderful world of Folk Tales, Legends, Tall Stories, Urban Myths, Anecdotes and Monologues.
Some members come to listen, some to tell. All are equally welcome. Our tellers range from beginners to some of the best storytellers in the land. About once a quarter we have a guest storyteller.
Why not come along? You will find we are welcoming, inclusive and non-judgmental – and the ability of the spoken word to let the imagination fly is truly liberating.
