High Wood Open Day

The annual open day at High Wood highlighting the work done to restore the ancient woodland.
11am-4pm – FREE entry
- 11.30am – Ecology walk Join Steve, our ecologist for a free hour long walk around High Wood, Liskeard, and encounter some of the birds, insects and other wildlife that inhabit this special place in summer. Learn more about Protect Earth’s work to restore High Wood from a commercial timber plantation back to a native broadleaf woodland for everyone to enjoy. Please wear appropriate footwear as some paths are steep and uneven.
- 12pm – 2.30pm – BBQ (vegetarian and vegan options available)

1pm – Talk and display by the Screech Owl and Animal Sanctuary
- 2.30pm – History walk with local historian Iain Rowe to learn about the history of the former railway.
There will also be demonstrations from a bodger (see below), and a local eco-friendly craftsman, a scavenger hunt, build a bug hotel or bird box, children’s crafts, tombola and more.
Please walk or cycle if you can as parking is extremely limited.

Pete the Bodger is a member of the Association of Pole-lathe Turners and Green Woodworkers. He is offering two free ‘have a go’ sessions (normal cost £15 per person) at our Open Day in June. The session lasts about an hour and a half. You will be shown how to whittle a spatula which you can take home afterwards. You must be over 18 years old.
