Beating the Bounds #1 – Looe
April 21 @ 10:00 am
Event Navigation
We’re kick-starting the Folk on the Edge project with a series of free walks across this end of Cornwall. Join us as we explore the unique landscapes of the Cornish Borderlands and begin to unlock some of the folklore hidden within them. Each walk will be guided and will vary in length and difficulty.
Beating the Bounds is a traditional custom where, once a year, communities walked the boundary of their parish. Creating and maintaining a shared mental map of home.
Sunday 21st April, 10am
Starting at the entrance to Kilminorth Woods, once home to Jack the Giant, we will walk up the West Looe Valley following the river as we go. Passing by ancient wells and important river crossings, we will eventually stroll up the long hill to Duloe to see St. Cuby’s church and the Stone Circle. We’ll stop for a debrief at the Plough before taking the bus back to Looe.
5.5 miles
There is an option to just join us for the Kilminorth woods section of the walk, which offers a circular walk.
2.75 miles
The walk will be led by poet and historian Mark Camp.
We encourage participants to come with cameras to document the trip, and stories to share but ask you to leave dogs at home.
