A Historic Walk to Ladye Park, Liskeard
October 2, 2016 @ 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Event Navigation
This walk will follow the pilgrimage route along Old Road and down the Mass Path to the holy site, in Ladye Park, by courtesy of the current owners.
A circular walk of about 2.5 miles will be led by popular local historian, Brian Oldham, of Liskeard Walkers are Welcome, who will tell of local characters as we pass their houses along the route. At Ladye Park, Peter Murnaghan, will give a short history of the site and particularly the re-discovery of the shrine by Margaret Pollard in the 1950s. The walk will follow some ups and downs as you would expect in Liskeard and will include the Mass Path, which is very uneven, so stout footwear should be worn.
Everyone is welcome. The walk will start at the Roman Catholic church of Our Lady and St Neot, West Street, Liskeard after the 11am Mass. Walkers are welcome to join members of the congregation for tea or coffee in the St Neot Room just after midday. The walk will set out at 12.30pm and also pick up at the top entrance to Westbourne car park at 12.30 for anyone who is unable to start from the church. Walkers are invited to bring their own packed lunch and we aim to return to town by 3pm.
